Science Contests and Competitions© Debbie St. Germain
Have you had a chance to read the book, Rocket Boys, or seen the movie, October Sky? It may be a bit fictionalized, but the concept behind the story is the same. With a desire and determination, anyone can fulfill their dreams and succeed in this world. Science contests are one way to reach those dreams and to begin your journey into the world of science.
There are other contests that I did not list, because the deadlines have already passed. Starting this week, I will be keeping an eye out for any new contests, and list them after each new article. Remember when entering the contests below, to follow the rules carefully; mistakes could disqualify you. There are no losers in science contests, the friendships and knowledge gained is the best prize you could take home with you.
GeneralInvent America Do you find yourself tinkering with gadgets or always saying I could do that better? Here is a contest for the young inventor. The program does require a kit that costs $13.95 in order to enter their program and contest. Schools and home schoolers, alike, can take advantage of this program. Invention Challenge Use your creativity and ingenuity to create a device with Duracell batteries, while winning scholarships for yourself and your school. Open to middle and high school students. Mathematics Contest A weekly contest sponsored by Casio products. Each week a new math problem is put online for you to solve. You chose the problem according to your age level and get a chance to win one of several scientific calculators.
