Dates are the first thing. Make sure the information is current. Is the site an educational site written by professionals or a personal site written by someone with a passing interest in the subject? Is the information backed up by references or is it someone's opinion? Are there any references? If not, how do you know that the original facts have not been changed?
The last thing you will need to do is write your report or essay. Of course, you won't be copying your information without changing it. This is where you have to be careful. Like the reporter who wrote the original story, you do not want to change the information so much that it has an entirely different meaning. You can use a thesaurus, but not all words have the exact meaning of the original. Once you pick a new word, check its meaning in the dictionary to make sure the meanings are the same. Using the news is a fun way to find topics for science reports or English essays. Spending a little extra time finding new and fun facts on your topic will not only give you an A+ paper, but if you happen to have one of those teachers who enjoys making you sweat out an oral report in front of the class, you can guarantee you won't put your classmates to sleep. Below are some links to news sites to help get you started in your topic search. This article is just a part of the process of researching and writing reports for school. If you would like more information or help with writing and researching, visit A+ for Researching and Writing. For those of you who are just interested in learning about naked mole-rats, I have listed a few sites with information and pictures about these curious little animals. NEWS SITES: SEARCH ENGINES: THE NAKED MOLE-RAT: My new site: Fun quizzes to help in school and more. Science, animals, geography, history, and more. If you would like to see a topic covered, mail me, and I will make up a quiz to help you learn or study for that next exam.
