Science in the Fifth Grade

© Brandon M.

In Ontario, the first day of school was Tuesday, September 6th. I am now in fifth grade, which is Middle School. I was very happy to be moving on to a more challenging school curriculum. I always seemed to be bored in elementary school.

I was at Grandma Mary's for a sleep over on September 4th. On the 5th, in the morning, I asked Grandma if she knew what I'd be taking in science in fifth grade. I love science and was anxious to know.

Grandma Mary and I got on the computer and went to the the site of our local school board. We looked up grade 5 curriculum and found that I'd be learning about the human body, animals, weather clusters and nature this year. That made me happy as those are all things I'm interested in.

On Tuesday, we went back to school and on the very first day my new teacher, Mrs. Stewart, gave us a health lesson. She doesn't fool around. She had us working most of the day.

Mrs. Stewart told my class that the first thing we'd be learning about this year was the human body and the five body systems. We learned about going to the doctor's office and the names of all the tools that doctors use to give a person a check up. It was very interesting even though I knew many of the things. We learned about tongue depressors, stethescopes, blood pressure cuffs and more. I know I'm going to love learning about the digestive system, the circulatory system and the respiratory system. There is a lot of subject matter in this term, but I love a challenge and it will be lots of fun learning how our bodies work.

Grandma Mary says if I help her, she will write about some of the things I learn in science. That will also be lots of fun.

I hope you enjoy your science lessons this term. Science is a lot of fun. In second term, I will either be learning about weather or nature. I think this year is going to be a good school year.
