Weird,imaginative or influenced?

It is amazing how many writers today are entering the science fiction challenge and are trying to create new and wonderful books to take readers into what I believe is their world.

It was after again looking through the incredible listings and reviews of SF Site I began to think about the writers of so many books.

Do they just have a weird view of our world and write about it in an abstract way?

Do they possess an incredible wild and wonderful imagination in which they have developed and fine-tuned the story they are writing?

Or have other writers and the film and television industry simply influenced them?

In the past writers of science fiction were a minority, but today the books just keep coming, new worlds and species are created seemingly everyday and series from Star Trek to Star Wars bring them to life. The influence on the writer can be seen to be both an inspiration for new ideas but maybe also a control. The subliminal control of the writer's imagination could make the difference between getting published or not. If the manuscript falls into the category of "nothing new", it will take its place with the rest in the draw marked rejected.

So how can today's writer be original?

I believe that writers using their own deep imagination, unaffected by what they have seen or read, wrote the new books in print today worth reading. They have found the ability to create the message of tomorrow, to give the readers the new material to stimulate their own imagination, to take them into a new original dimension of the weird and wonderful.

If you are a writer working on a science fiction novel try reading through what you have written then look at your work with an open mind as if you were the reader.

Does your work reflect any other film or novel? Have you been influenced?

Be honest with your self, it will only save you time in the future.

Subliminal stimulation can and will control your writing, from writing classes and tutors to simply watching a movie, the brain absorbs all the information and the free thinking writer can lose the depth of their own imagination.

The best writing is still waiting to be written, and you may be the one with the new concept, the new creation, and the uninfluenced imagination that will take tomorrows readers into your world.

Write weird and write imaginative, create and write your book and enjoy writing because when it's published you will be the one who made it possible for the readers to enjoy a new concept.
