The ball of flames left a bright fiery trail across the dark blue sky as it fell towards the planet, hitting the ground the shock wave levelled the surrounding tree's and foliage. A cloud of steam and flames leapt hissing into the air like a volcano anticipating an eruption.
The sky began to brighten on the horizon and the yellow bars of light reached up higher as a sun slowly appeared. The line of light pushing back the darkness revealed the devastating event, the fallen trees laid flat and the earth around formed a shallow crater, scorched and black. In the center lay a dark round molten object; As the light crept over the object it started to change to a dark blue colour, slowly as if feeding off the light the object came alive. Inside in a large seat in front of a control panel the suited figure sat restrained and lifeless, the helmet visor mirrored the surrounding cockpit and the huge gloved hands still gripped the arm rests. The control panel started to activate and several intravenous lines reached out and searched for connections in the suit, locking into position they all pulsed with light and the suited figure jerked in a spasm arching its body against the restraints before relaxing and falling back into the seat. The gloved hands slowly flexed reaching for pressure pads on each arm of the seat they squeezed and the restraints released. Pushing another pad a hatch opened and the figure stood, the huge bulk moved effortlessly from the seat and walked away. Walking through the dense forest the figure moved with a purpose and direction until in a small clearing the old stone pyramid shaped building came into sight, overgrown with years of vegetation a few small animals scampered away as the figure approached. Walking to the front of the building the figure stood on a large stone etched with an elaborate motif, it sank slowly down into the ground and another stone quickly closed over the entry. The soft red lights led the way to a large control room, the room activated as the figure sat at a central console. A wall of monitors bombarded the figure with information, the life and progress of the planet for centuries replayed in minutes, the images reflected back from the visor of the suit as life and technology advanced, death and destruction, wars and famine, innocent creatures annihilated, species of plant and creatures pushed into extinction. The dominant species had taken a god like form; they had given themselves the status over all life as to what was allowed to live and what could die, without questioning the consequences to future life, without questioning how their own short life would benefit or destroy the future, without caring for more than how they could achieve a higher status over their fellow kind. A status which would die with them and mean nothing in the future. Go To Page: 1 2
