Unique. There are so many writers who have felt the need to write a short story, a play or a full-length novel. These people live normal lives working and existing in a very real world, but they have a want, a need to create something for others to enjoy. Mostly these people will have a lack of confidence in themselves and will not enter into the project without first taking the advise of considered professionals. When I had written the first work I felt should be published I started to make enquiries of how to proceed and contacted some writing course organizers and tutors. I met with these people and attended their lectures. I found that the tutors presented excellent courses in writing styles and colourful technical rights and wrongs of the use of vocabulary and punctuation. You will of cause notice I didn't learn anything. I also found that only a small percentage of the tutors were published authors. I began to look further after my work was published into the writers study coarses and what they offered in reality. The knowledge was aimed at perfection and style, a great confidence boost to the amateur writer but the new knowledge and technical ability seemed to restrict the freedom of the imagination, it detracted from the ability to be unique, the writer had become subconsciously conditioned, typecast in the style they were taught. I looked at the work of the students at the start of a course and when they finished. The style and imagination ideas changed dramatically, their writing had become controlled and technical. The pupils had lost the ability to see the strange and wonderful science fiction world of fantasy. The questions they had wanted to develop were lost in reality, a reality of technique. They could have taken any subject and turned positive to negative, what would happen if the dark forces won the battle, how would life have been in their fictitious universe if all the normal controls of reality were taken away. The education had been allowed to restrict their own style. The writers had become to involved with technical writing. The book is waiting to be written and the world is waiting to read it, only the confidence is missing. My advise here has to be, learn what you feel you need to learn for your own confidence and then write what you want to write. I know from experience that there are a great many experts that know how to correct and punctuate your work; they have achieved a level of expertise that is unrivalled. They work as editors and publishers, they will make your work available to the world, but they need your unique ideas to work with.
