There is no one more critical than a serious reader. They will read every word and find every grammatical error, spelling mistake and print fault. With this in mind the science fiction writer can use total freedom to invent and create alien worlds, describe abstract and unnatural creatures without fear of contradiction. Impossible feats can be explained away by strange and powerful forces invented in the mind of the writer. The dimension of time and space can be controlled by the imagination as the new world of fantasy is revealed to the reader. But inevitably facts can and will be used in the work. They may seem too insignificant to cover exactly but the readers will spot the inaccuracies. Science and technology are advancing and the answers to what used to be written as fiction are now fact. The atmospheres of planets in our own solar system have now been analyzed, man has travelled to the moon and frequently enters the weightless world of outer space and encounters the problems this poses to the human body. Probes have been sent to the planet Mars and information has been returned which contradicts the writers speculation. The facts are available and the writer should ensure accuracy by research, the smallest detail can be seen as the difference between an amateur writer and a professional. With access to the Internet or simply reference books and libraries research has never been easier and the new knowledge can often bring new themes and story lines to brighten up the subject. From cloning to artificial body parts, organ transplants to electronic implants, science has theories and proven facts that a good writer should be able to use and adapt to expand and reshape into accurate fact based fantasy. If possible find an expert in a specific field, if you need to know more about for example, animal behavior, look for a specialist or trainer. You will find that people love to talk about their expertise and the information you will receive will be better than any written work, it will contain small points which would probably not have been included in a research text. Medical terms and problems encountered with surgery are best and more colorfully explained by a hands on expert. As astronomy and space technology reaches new levels on a daily basis ensure you use the new information. The smallest details can be filled out and your own book may be the one that carries a new theme to an audience of readers eager to travel into a new dimension of fantasy based on reality only just in its infancy of scientific exploration.
