All writers must take the time to evaluate themselves. You have decided to write a book, why?
You have probably read a good variety of literature and will have seen plenty of films and series. You have chosen a favorite theme, Science Fiction. Now your imagination has begun to form your own scenario, a story has started to develop and characters have taken shape like actors in your mind. Your life will start to change as the story develops, the normal everyday
routines of life will begin to create distractions and frustrations, work, family and friends will expect or demand your time, valuable and creative writing time. The want to write and the time available never seem to be the same time.
The process demands a positive focused mental attitude. However from taking the time available a book is started, but will it be finished? I have met so many people who are writing and have been for a long time. I have heard every conceivable excuse why they have been unable to continue or finish. One person had been working on a project for seven years, they would take out the manuscript, read it adding, altering and deleting parts then it was filed again because it was not the right time. So why had they decided to start? Was it the message that was being written into the book that was so important? Or could it be that the money from the books sales was going to provide a better life style or a retirement fund? What ever it was didn't have two important qualities, discipline and commitment. With discipline the time to write is chosen and all the likely distractions are catered for, family and friends will be told it is your time, the telephone will not be answered if it rings and the door will not be opened if someone knocks. It is not selfish to ask for time alone and it is not very often that something can't wait while you concentrate and write in peace, to download the story from your head and write up the notes you will have made until your writing time came. I can honestly say that all the distractions and interruptions I encountered until I found writing discipline there were none that couldn't have waited. Commitment, it is to easy to walk away from anything in life, so before you start make sure you have the strength in your heart and mind to finish. You will find that the writing is the easy part, next you have to get published.
