We have all seen them, the TV soaps. They captivate a cult following on a twice-daily basis with an addiction stronger than the strongest drugs available. People would kill to get through heavy traffic rather than miss their daily intake of pathetically repetitive poorly portrayed life which is supposed to carry drama, humour and supposable some form of reality.
Having read so many scripts pre publish I am numb in the brain from the amount of predictable seen it all before in a soap opera type story lines and so would like to give all readers, writers and possible authors who stumble across or follow this page the following advise. Write your own novel. Novels become films and features some of which will be aired on a daily or weekly basis and may even incorporate the dreaded TOBY (to be continued) so that we watch almost all the first episode again to be treated to ten extra minutes of mind numbing expectancy in the second episode and finale. The incredible soap is so predictable in its plot and expectation. You have to see the beginning where all the vital clues are given, then find something constructive to do until the last ten minutes and watch the only action in the plot reveal its self as was expected. Sci Fi writers today have the hardest obstacle to over come with so many one hour specials to follow and new book releases to read. Star Trek in all its forms and such greats as Quantum Leap, Andromida, Farscape even remembering Space 1999, UFO to name just some of the writers material which has been transformed into one hour soap specials to brainwash the average public with its predictable story of life portrayed in the past or future and given the title Sci Fi. I sometimes feel that the easiest way to write successfully would be to have lobotomy and let the uninfluenced imagination take charge and ramble away with the intelligence level of a new reality and imagination to create a new theme totally unaffected by what people are supposed to expect. Why should all the action be in the final scenes? Why should the hero always get the girl? Go To Page: 1 2
