The Dead Zone
From executive producers Michael Piller, Lloyd Segan and Robert Lieberman, "The Dead Zone" stars Anthony Michael Hall as John Smith, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" alumni Nicole deBoer as Sarah Bannerman, Chris Bruno as Sheriff Walt Bannerman, David Ogden Stiers as Reverend Gene Purdy and John L. Adams as Bruce Lewis. In the first episode "Wheel of Fortune," the first thing the viewer notices is that Johnny isn't your normal kid. In the first scene he is knocked over while ice-skating and hits his head. Then he has a flash of premonition about a kid whose hockey stick he'd briefly touched. Flash forward some twenty years, that young boy is now a high school Science teacher with an extraordinary ability to foresee certain events and is set to marry his childhood sweetheart (Sarah Bracknell). One night after attending a festival/carnival he drops her off at her place and starts off toward his own home when, not too long later, he becomes involved in a car accident. He suffers a severe head trauma, a "closed head trauma with an extensive subdural Hematoma," and "multiple lower extremity long bone complex fractures." As a result of his injuries Johnny lapsed into a coma. Now, flash forward again to six years later. Johnny is lying in a hospital bed and a nurse comes up ready to give him a bed bath when all of a sudden...bam...he wakes up and grabs her arm. A short time later he discovers that when he touches someone he gets paranormal visions of events that are about to happen. This amazing talent is noticed when his nurse touches him with a washcloth and he sees her young daughter trapped in a room that's on fire. Luckily with his help the child is saved from death. "The Dead Zone" looks like it's going to be a great series. Two of the show's best points are the amazing special effects and the realistic and likeable characters. "The Dead Zone" is the epitome of what makes Sci-Fi and Horror television great. The cast of "The Dead Zone" is one of the few casts that I have seen that makes you think that they have been together for years rather than mere months. This is a quality that I look for most in new shows. If a cast works well together it's a sign that the show will last.
