Although "Stargate Sg-1" is set to begin it's sixth season, I have seen only a few episodes including the first episode entitled "Children of the Gods." I have to admit that I am hooked on the series. "Stargate SG-1" seems to have the ability to pull you in and hold you in its grasp.

The series began as a spin-off of the Kurt Russell feature film "Stargate," which was released in 1994 and was created by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich. Of the original movie's cast only Alexis Cruz (who played Skaara/Korel) returned in the "Stargate" series pilot "Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods."

Still "Stargate SG-1" compiled a fabulous cast including Richard Dean Anderson as Col. Jack O'Neil, Amanda Tapping as Captain Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge as Teal'C, Don S. Davis as General Hammond and Michael Shanks as Dr. Daniel Jackson.

Also making appearances in "Children of the Gods" were Jay Acovone as Major Kawalski, Robert Wisden as Major Samuels, Vaitiare Bandera as Sha're and Peter Williams as Apophis. The episode was directed by Mario Azzopardi and written by Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright.

"Stargate Sg-1: Children of the Gods" continues the tale that began in the original "Stargate" film. The episode is set one year after the movie and brings a retired Col. O'Neil back into the "Stargate" project. As the episode opens we see a group of Air Force personnel playing cards at the bottom of the ramp leading to the "Stargate."

The female officer is curious about the "Stargate" and asks the others about it, when she sees the tarp that covers the gate move she gets up to investigate it. That's when all hell breaks loose. Several soldiers with serpent helmets walk through the gate. The woman is taken hostage...gunfire begins to erupt and the card players end up dead on the floor as back up arrives to late.

A short time later O'Neil is brought back to the SGC for a meeting with the new commander, General George Hammond. Soon after the meeting O'Neil assembles his team for a trip through the gate...with the addition of one Captain Samantha "Sam" Carter, who gives as good as she gets with O'Neil and Kawalski.

The team steps through the gate and discovers that the people of Abydos are alive and well, including Daniel, his wife Sha're and the young boy who worships O'Neil, Skaara. Daniel takes them to the site of a giant cartouche that's covered in hieroglyphics, a map of other gates through out the universe.
