Sci-Fi TV News Watch

The FOX series 'The Lone Gunmen' is going to have a "monkey" episode coming up. The series Executive Producer Chris Carter told Salon magazine that in one of the episodes there will be a government program involving Chimpanzees.

A remnant of the Cold War, the program supposedly attempted to create an "ultimate warrior/assassin" using chimps as the subjects. Only one of the chimps is really smart and now that the Cold War is over...the chimp wants out. From the sounds of it the episode will have shades of the movie "Project X", which starred Matthew Brodderick.

Well known actor Lou Diamond Phillips (best known for his lead role in La Bamba) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have reportedly been signed to star in the pilot episode of CBS' new Sci-Fi Werewolf drama entitled "Wolf Lake".

According to Sci-Fi Wire, well known Star Trek designer, Michael Okuda, who created the computer control panels (among other things), has signed on to the production staff of new Trek series. The Official Trek site reported that Okuda will be the show's scenic arts supervisor, the person who's responsible for the "look" of the control panels, alien written languages and more.

Okuda has been involved in the entire runs of Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: DS9 and Star Trek: Voyager as well as the feature films since the fourth movie Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. He has also co written several of the Trek "Technical" books, including the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the Star Trek Chronology and the Star Trek: TNG Tech manual.

The actor who portrayed Oz on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has been cast in the new puppet fantasy/comedy series from FOX entitled "Greg the Bunny". Green will reportedly play the "roommate of the puppet star of a fictional children's show". The series also stars Sarah Silverman, Eugene Levy and Dash Mihok.

Star Trek: TOS' Walter Koenig will be on the March 20th episode of the FX network series "Son of the Beach". Koenig will play General Sukitov on the series, which is reportedly a spoof on Baywatch type shows.

Star Trek: DS9's Nana Visitor will be playing Madame X on an upcoming episode of FOX's Dark Angel. Madame X will reportedly be Lydecker's superior.

The next part of the new Star Trek Comic mini-series from Wildstorm, 'Star Trek Divided We Fall' will be arriving in comic book stores June 13th. The ST: NG/ST: DS9 crossover follows the new DS9 novels, which are set after the events of the series finale "What You Leave Behind...".
