The thing about Sci-Fi quotes...

Have you ever watched your favourite Sci-Fi show, or any other genre show for that matter, and thought...'Now here's a great line'? Many times I've sat watching one of my favourite shows and find myself saying to family members...'Now there ya go...that's a good line...and other times I'll say 'Ohhh...what was that writer thinking? That's horrible...'.

Often times the most memorable line is something profound and emotional. Other times its something that makes you laugh so hard you nearly split your sides. Or they can be as simple as "He's dead Jim!" or "Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor not a bricklayer."

However, some people don't associate quotes with television, when they think of quotes they think of Shakespeare, Burns, Whitman, Tennyson, Martin Luthur King Jr. or any of the great world leaders such as Winston Churchill, or Abraham Lincoln. While they are the architects of some of my favourite and most inspiring quotes...many of my favourite ones are from Sci-Fi shows like Star Trek, Babylon 5 and Xena: Warrior Princess.

In this day and age, quotes come from everywhere around us and some have a profound impact on our lives. One such quote for me is one from my grandmother, she was always telling my cousin and I when we were younger, even to this very day, "There is no such word as can't...YOU can do anything that you put your mind to!"

Some others give you strength, while still others encourage you to look beyond the world you see or change the way you see things.

Here are some of my all-time favourite Sci-Fi quotes (in no particular order):

From Star Trek (all series):

"Just before they went into warp, I beamed the whole kit and kaboodle into their engine room, where they'll be no tribble at all." (Scotty explaining how he got rid of the tribbles in the Star Trek: TOS episode 'The Trouble With Tribbles')

Scotty: "Now this is a drink for a man." Chekov: "Scotch?" Scotty: "Aye." -- Scott Chekov: "It vas inwented by a little old lady in Leningrad." (Chekov and Scotty in the Star Trek: TOS episode 'The Trouble With Tribbles') "At ease, Ensign, before you sprain something!" (Janeway to Harry Kim in the Star Trek: Voyager episode 'Caretaker')
