Two new shows to watch out for....

© Tanya M. Blakeley

As I've scoured the net for new Sci-Fi TV news, sites and other things, I've discovered many interesting new shows whose pilot episodes have already been shown or filmed and some still in development.

So, I decided that in this article I would highlight two of these new shows. The two featured in this article are First Frontier and The Privateers.

First Frontier -- I first mentioned First Frontier early in 1999 when I came across a item announcing that Claudia Christian would be portraying the role of Ilona Jones in the series. The series, co-created by Andrew Dymond and Jim Mortimore, is seen as the start of a "return of the Cult Sci-Fi television in Britain.

While still in the pre-production stage, and still waiting for the the "official" go ahead to begin production, the series has already generated a large following among Science Fiction fans.

The premise of the show is that in the future the hope for a "United Earth" has given way to finiancial gains. Business corporations, governments and other individuals rule and the common everyday man and woman fend for themselves.

The lead characters involved the series are:

Noel Kennard to be played by Joe McGann - A man with a bad history. He was next in line to succeed his boss, Joseph Makian, in a powerful Crime Syndicate until he betrayed him. He then started his own private business conglomerate to "solve problems and save live on a planetary level".

Ilona Jones to be played by Claudia Christian - Forced to retire from the Peace Corps, Ilona became a freelance Marshall. She also is faced with being a single mother to daughter, Juno, on top of her many other problems, which all involve Kennard.

Joseph Makian to be played by Michael Sheard - Kennard's former boss, who's only problem is figuring out how to "steal the universe". Makian is described as a charming, intelligent and yet, deceitful man.

Other characters in the series are Quace to be played by Simon Lewis, Juno to be played by Emma Darwall-Smith, Abelard to be played by Jeremy Bulloch, the voice of the computer Mata Hari to be played by Sue Witheridge and Mercury to be played by Corinne Britton.

The Privateers -- I came across a reference to The Privateers as I was surfing through a fan site on Walter Koenig. So, out of curiousity, I clicked on the link and was taken to the Official site for The Privateers and started to read about this fabulous new series that was in development for the fall of this year.

I'll agree there is a similarity in the shape of the wings but, other than that I don't believe that the two are anything alike.

I guess it's upto the individual fans...:)
