Reports from the Star Trek: Voyager newsgroup confirmed more of the details of the three concepts that are being tested for a new Trek series that will replace Voyager once its initial run ends at the end of next season. The three concepts being considered are Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: Alpha Squad.
Starfleet Academy: Would take place after the Dominion War which was depicted in Star Trek: DS9. Starfleet cadets would serve onboard a starship commanded by a seasoned captain and would find themselves in life-or-death situations while on training missions. Characters would include a female Vulcan cadet and a changeling disguised as a Klingon. Enterprise: Would be a prequel, which would take place in the 22nd century. Alpha Squad: Would take place long after the Dominion War. Alpha Squad would be an elite force of two ships, to be dispatched on specific missions against the enemies of the Federation. Ethan Phillips, the actor who plays Neelix on Voyager, reportedly isn't a big fan of his elaborate make-up. According to an interview with Eon Magazine Phillips is quoted as saying, "The rubber has gotten to be so much of a bitch to wear that I've really started to get phobic about it." However, Phillips has said that he's looking forward to the return of Jennifer Lien. Lien will reprise her role as Neelix's love interest, Kes in an upcoming episode. Kate Mulgrew, who portrays Capt. Kathryn Janeway on Voyager, has reportedly said that she's for the show to end next season and for Voyager to go home. Mulgrew will be taking her career to New York to be closer to her husband Cleveland politician Tim Hagan.
