Sci-Fi TV News Watch


There is a rumour that Patrick Stewart and Laurence Fishburne are the leading candidates for the lead role in Paul Anderson's upcoming Doctor Who movie. It's also been reported that the team that helmed The Blair Witch Project has been approached to work on the film. The rumours first showed up in the London Sunday Times by way of Cinescape.

There is another hot rumour going around, that David Duchovny and his X-Files character may be leaving the show. Ain't It Cool News reports that according to one of their sources, Stephen Rea of The Crying Game may be replacing Duchovny. Both Duchovny and the show's creator Chris Carter have stated that will probably not be returning after the show's seventh season.

It's been reported that Star Trek: The Next Generation's Marina "Deanna Troi" Sirtis and Dwight "Barclay" Schultz will guest star in an upcoming Voyager episode titled "Pathfinder." Sirtis will reprise her Star Trek: the Next Generation role as Deanna Troi while Schultz reprises his as Reginald Barclay.

"Pathfinder" reportedly takes place on Earth, and has Barclay obsessing about contacting the missing Voyager. After Barclay once again becomes obsessed with the holodeck he turns to Troi for help. The episode is tentatively set to air on December 1/99 at 9 p.m. on UPN.

Chris Carter informed the LA Times that he has plans to "wrap up" the cancelled Millennium series, the series he created about the coming of the Millennium, in an upcoming episode of his hit series The X-Files. Lance Hendrickson, Millennium's lead character Frank Black, will be making a feature appearance in the episode. Although no other details are known at this date.

Sierra On-Line has cancelled its Babylon 5 space-combat game after massive changes in reorganization of the company.

It's been reported that James Marsden has signed on to the upcoming X-Men movie. Marsden will reportedly portray Cyclops.

Legendary actor George C. Scott known to Science Fiction fans for his role as Gen. Buck Turgidson in Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film Dr. Strangelove, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1999 in his Westlake Village, Calif., home. He was 71 years old.
