The Showtime Beyond Sci-Fi channel was Officially launched on the 12th of September. The channel is designed in such a way that it transports 'viewers beyond their everyday reality'. It's focus is on programming within the science fiction, fantasy and horror genre.
David Hasselhoff, the actor best know for his roles on 'Baywatch' and 'Knight Rider', will reportedly be appearing on NBC's Sci-Fi comedy 3rd Rock From the Sun as a plastic surgeon in an upcoming episode. Showtime has reportedly cancelled the series 'Total Recall 2070'. The series was based somewhat on the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie of the same name. Showtime has reportedly renewed 'Stargate SG-1' and the classic 'The Outer Limits'. The UK Sci-FI channel's new website is now up. It can be found at http://uk.scifi.com. According to Ain't It Cool News, actor Sean Bean will be portraying Boromir in the new Lord of the Rings trillogy. The former WWF Women's Champion Sable, who now goes by her real name Rena Mero, is reported to be interested in a role in a Sci-Fi series which would be based on the hit movie 'Heavy Metal'. Tribune Entertainment has given the go ahead to the new hour-long Sci-Fi series entitled 'Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda'. The show, developed by Robert Hewitt Wolfe, will starring Kevin Sorbo, the former star of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. The series is set to launch in the fall of 2000. Sorbo, Majel Barrett Roddenberry and Eric Gold will reportedly be executive producing Andromeda and Wolfe will be co-executive producer. Rigel Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment have teamed up in order to bring Robocop back to television. Fireworks has begun production on a four part miniseries entitled 'Robocop: Prime Directives'. The miniseries will consist of four two-hour Robo TV movies The series will take place 10 years after the original Robocop movie. It will feature Page Fletcher in the lead role, Alex Murphy the cyborg cop. Other stars reportedly include Maurice Dean Wint as Delta City Security Commander John T. Cable, Maria Del Mar as Sara Cable, Anthony Lemke as James Murphy Alex's son, David Fraser as Edwin Hobley the technical genius, and Geraint Wyn-Davies as a villain. The first part is entitled 'Dark Justice', the second is entitled 'Meltdown', the third is entitled 'Resurrection' and the fourth is entitled 'Crash and Burn'. Julian Grant is the producer and director of the miniseries, which evolved from scripts by Joseph O'Brien and Brad Abraham.
