The X-Files - A series Profile

The X-Files began as a cult favourite, brought to us by FOX on Friday Sept. 10, 1993. Since then, like many of the current Sci-Fi shows the X-Files has grown in popularity over the years becoming one of the biggest Hits in Sci-Fi Television history. The series has won various awards over the years including several Emmy's, a few Golden Globes and more. There have been numerous books and magazines written for, about and dedicated to the X-Files and it's stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

The show which begins it's seventh season in November, stars David Duchovny as FBI agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as FBI agent Dana Scully. Together Mulder and Scully investigate "the truth" about extraterrestrial life and alien colonization. The series effectively chronicles the investigations of Mulder and Scully into unsolved FBI cases know as the "X-files", where the only solution to those cases involves the paranormal or unexplained phenomena.

Agent Mulder, who earned the nickname "Spooky" by comrades in the FBI, stands by his belief in the paranormal. A belief that was fuelled by the appearent abduction of his sister Samantha by aliens when he was 12. The FBI partnered with him with Agent Scully, who as a medical doctor chooses to believe in but in facts and logic, so that she could derail his strange theories. However, instead the two became close friends, who's bond has weathered the storms and destruction that follows their cases, with a little help from their supervisor, Assistant Director Walter Skinner (played by Mitch Pileggi) .

Mulder and Scully, in addition to finding solutions to the unexplained, must battle forces within their own government led by the Cigarette-Smoking Man (played by veteran Canadian actor William B. Davis), who want to keep the truth behind the unexplained phenomena and the paranormal activity hidden deep in the shadows.

The sixth season brought many changes to the X-Files, both behind the scenes and on screen. Behind the scenes it was the change of location, from Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada to Los Angeles, California. A move that will allow the show to tell various different types of stories that involve different parts of the US that where not easily matched while shooting in the Pacific Northwest.
