Canadian-born actor William Shatner is best know for his role as Captain James T. Kirk on Star Trek: The Original Series, but he first gained promise at the McGill University where he took an active role in it's on campus theatrical productions. Through college he spent his summers performing in the Royal Mount Theater Company.
Then after graduating with a B.A. in 1952, he worked with the National Repertory Theater in Ottawa. Later he gained co-starring roles in plays such as "The Merchant of Venice" and "Henry V" and won the Most Promising Actor Award. In 1961, Shatner appeared in the film "Judgment at Nuremberg". After which came the film "Outrage" and the role that he is best known for, that of Captain Kirk. After Star Trek ended he went on to star in the first seven Star Trek Feature Films as well as many other films including "Sole Survivor", "Big Bad Mama", the Sherlock Holmes classic "Hound of the Baskervilles", "Dead of night" and more. Not only is Shatner an accomplished actor but, he is also a talented director, directing the fifth Star Trek movie "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" and several episodes of his TV series "TekWar" (which was based on his series of novels by the same name). He is also the author of several books including the biographical "Star Trek: Memories" and "Star Trek: Movie Memories". He has also written several Star Trek books which includes "Star Trek: Dark Victory", "Star Trek: Spectre" and "Star Trek: The Odyssey", which is the cullmonation of three of his Star Trek novels "The Ashes of Eden", "The Return" and "Avenger". For the past nine years, Shatner has spear headed the Hollywood Charity Horse Show, which raises money for charity while gathering together some of the "best western reining riders" in the country. He has also been working to help raise public awareness of tinnitus, an aliment that he himself suffers from. Tinnitus which is ringing in the ears, is a common problem, and affects about 17% of the general population around the world (44 million people in the USA), Shatner's was caused by his being too close to a rigged explosion on the set of Star Trek: TOS.
