The Sci-Fi Channel has announced that Farscape has been renewed for a second season, which is set to begin in MArch of 2000. Farscape, which was created by the creator of Alien Nation and Seaquest DSV Rockne S. O'Bannon, is also reported to have the largest audience of any Sci-Fi show (an average of 576,000 households per episode).
Star Trek: Voyager executive producer Brannon Braga has told Cinescape that there are no plans for a new Star Trek series based on Starfleet Academy. Braga is quoted as saying "If there is a new Star Trek series, I highly doubt if it will have anything to do with Starfleet Academy." The X-Files leads the Sci-Fi TV Emmy nominees with 8 nominations including Gillian Anderson for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and Veronica Cartwright for Outstanding Guest ACtress in a Drama Series. Following close behind with seven nominations was the Sci-Fi comedy 3rd Rock from the Sun. Star Trek: DS9 received four nominations and Star Trek: Voyager earned three nominations, all in the category of Outstanding Visual Effects for a series. Star Trek: The Next Generation's Patrick "Captain Jean-Luc Picard" Stewart is set to star in an updated TV version of William Shakespeare's play "King Lear" for TNT. This "updated version" of Shakespeare's tragedy, which is presently called Boss Lear, will star Stewart and Gregory Peck as members of a prominent ranch family in Texas. Four members of Star Trek: The Original Series have reportedly teamed up for a fourteen-state tour. James "Scotty" Doohan, Walter "Chekov" Koenig, Nichelle "Uhura" Nichols and George "Sulu" Takei will be making conventions appearances across the U.S. The first stop of the tour was July 17-18 in Raleigh, NC. Other Convention appearances include: Aug. 7-8 in Valley Forge, PA The "Top Sci- Fi Shows" according to the Nielsen Galaxy Report are: X-Files (HHR rating 4.1 ), Star Trek: DS9 (HHR rating 2.9), Hercules (HHR rating 2.9), Stargate SG-1 (HHR rating 2.8), Xena (HHR rating 2.7), Earth: Final Conflict (HHR rating 2.4), Outer Limits (HHR rating 2.0), The Crow (HHR rating 1.8), and Mortal Kombat (HHR rating 1.8).
