Paramount is reportedly working on a new Star Trek series that will be called "Flight Academy," which may feature young unknown actors. Paramount has also hinted that Star Trek is due for some major changes sometime in the near future. No word yet on what those changes are.
The WB Network has reportedly ordered 13 episodes of the new animated series "The Oblongs." "The Oblongs" is based on the upcoming novel Creepy Susie and Thirteen other Tragic Tales for Troubled children written by Angus Oblong. The show is about a strange family that has been inflicted with numerous physical and emotional abnormalities due to "toxic conditions." The Hollywood Reporter reports that the show is being developed by Warner Bros. Television with the help of top-notch writers/producers Bruce Helford (The Drew Carey Show) and Jace Richdale (The Simpsons) and is scheduled to air in the fall of next year. Richard Hatch, the former star of "Battelstar Galactia," unveiled his self-produced trailer for a new "Battlestar Galactica" movie at DragonCon last weekend. It's been reported that fans gave Hatch a standing ovation for the teaser. The teaser featured Hatch as the commander of the Galactica fleet, taking on a new generation of Cylons. According to Variety, ABC plans to air a six-part miniseries called "Dinotopia" in May 2001. The miniseries will be based on the first two books of James Gurney's illustrated series, which centre on an island where humans and talking dinosaurs coexist in peace and harmony. In the new Star Trek novel "Vulcan's Heart," Ambassador Spock and Commander Saavik get married. The novel, written by Josepha Sherman and Susan Shwartz, also has Spock travelling into the Romulan Neutral Zone to preserve peace in the quadrant.
