Many of you may remember the short lived syndicated series Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. Although 'Captain Power', which began in 1987 and lasted only one year because of a loss of financial support by Mattel, it was a high quality series that appealed to "kids of all ages". It also gained respect from the industry, receiving a Golden Reel for Sound Editing from the Motion Picture Sound Editors and Best Technical Achievement Gemini Award and Jessica Steen received a Gemini nomination for her role as 'Pilot'.

The idea behind 'Captain Power' was the classic quest for good to overcome evil, in this case good was represented by Captain Jonathon Power and his Soldiers of the Future and evil by Lord Dread and his Biodreads. With Lord Dread seeking world dominance by trying to make humans into machines (logical, emotionless and perfect), Captain Power and his team seek to protect and save the human race by standing up to Lord Dread and his followers, using advanced technology and 'Power Suits'.

'Captain Power' starred Tim Dunigan as Captain Jonathon Power, Jessica Steen as Corporal Jennifer 'Pilot' Chase, Peter MacNeill as Major Matthew 'Hawk' Masterson, Sven-Ole Thorsen as Lieutenant Michael 'Tank' Ellis, Maurice Dean Wint as Sargent Robert 'Scout' Baker Bruce Gary as Mentor/Dr. Stuart Power.

It also starred David Hemblen as Lord Dread, Deryck Hazel as the voice of the Biodread Soaron, Tedd Dillon as the voice of overmind, John Davies as the voice of the Biodread Blastarr, Don Francks as teh voice of Lacchi.

The Creative team behind the production and writing of 'Captain Power' consisted of some of the people behind the hit series Babylon 5. This team included the creator of Babylon 5 J. Michael Straczynski (story editor for Captain Power) and two of Babylon 5's producers Douglas Netter and John Copeland (producers for Captain Power).

Despite it's short run 'Captain Power' continues to be shown and attract fans world wide. To me 'Captain Power' Remains one of the best Sci-Fi programs of the late '80s and early 90's.
