Why make music?

Many posts in the discussion referred to religion. Maybe music is something divine we are allowed by a higher power to participate in. This would explain the previous argument of extending communication to a higher level.

“Why do we make music? Maybe we don't make it at all, maybe we just release it from within us.” -Judah

Again, the idea that music is something spiritual, almost an aura, around everything - waiting to be released. And then comes the post:

“...maybe we do music because its fun..” -ZigZag

Could that be all there is to it? Well, whatever reason music exists, it cannot be disputed that music is a very powerful and important force. Whether you feel you are releasing a force from inside you, or tapping into a larger one around you, you should feel very proud that you are involved in making music. I will leave you with one final quote. This one is from Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice, Act 5, Scene 1. It doesn’t expound on the nature of why we make music, but it does show how important music is, and always has been, to human life.

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not mov’d with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils;
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus:
Let no such man be trusted.
