In Memoriam - Gordon "Tex" Beneke

Gordon "Tex" Beneke died on one May 30, 2000, at the age of 86. Tex was the lead tenor saxophonist for the Glenn Miller orchestra. He is one of the two heard in the famous dueling solo of "In the Mood."

Not only was he a gifted saxophonist, but he was also one of Miller's lead singers. He had a voice as rich and expressive as his saxophone.

After Miller's death, Tex took over the Glenn Miller orchestra. He was a talented man, and a hero of mine. We will all miss him.

Next month's article will chronicle this amazing saxophonist: Tex Beneke (1914-2000)
