Rambling Forward and Looking Backward ...

I really can't quite comprehend the fact that we are now living in a new century. I've been lucky and had not Y2K problems with any of our three computers. Our fourth, the oldest, is out on loan so I'm not sure how it has fared. I hope you have done as well!

This is always a good time to look back over the last year as well as look forward into the new. The last year has brought many changes for us, the biggest was moving out of the full-timer lifestyle back into the part-timer. We felt both happy and sad about this - happy about the cabin in the mountains we found and purchased, sad about the loss of flexibility. But, for now, we have to have the security of full-time work with good health care. Someday ... who knows?

I have been researching RVing sites on the Internet for over three years now. When I started, there were not a lot of resources online. The major organizations were present, a few personal pages, of course the manufacturers and dealers but not much more. In the last 18 months I have seen a tremendous growth in the number of sites. Not all of them are worthwhile, some have the same news, sites and information as others. Others shine above the rest, each for different reasons. Here are some of my favorites.

All groupings listed in alphabetical order.

New Sites:

  • Handicapped Travel Club

  • RV Companion
The new print magazine is also online.

  • RV Design
If you're into computers, this site is a must see!

  • RVNetLinx
A new general site that has something for everyone. Easy to navigate and usually fairly quick loading.

  • RV Travel at About.com
Another community site, fairly new but starting out well.

Redesigned Sites:

  • Affinity Group
Really a new site but it creates an umbrella for all their services. Both Trailer Life and MotorHome have been reworked as well.

  • Escapees RV Club
Good start on a total site redesign. Really like the changes so far and look forward to what may come in the future.

  • FMCA
MUCH better site with MUCH more information available online. Good job!

  • Good Sam Club
Much more professional looking and easier to find what you are looking for. News Flashes are linked right from the front page.

  • Happy Campers
Quicker loading, faster graphics (downsized from before) and nice clean look.

  • Wal-Mart Online
