The Flea Market, My Two Cents!

One of the many ways to make money on the road is to sell items at flea markets. Flea markets exist in most towns. There is a list of flea markets available at www. fleamarketguide.com, there are many more lists. You can check these lists for flea markets on your route or at your destination. Although first I recommend you try your hand at the flea market a few times at home before you ad it to your traveling resume.

Let's say that most flea market spots have fifteen feet of frontage. We need to find tables to put our items on, people do not want to bend over to look at your stuff. If you want to cover the tables prior to display sheets work well, my wife says it makes your spot look better. Now find items to sell, gather up a lot of things to sell, you want to be able to keep your tables full all day.

You need the following items to help you sell:

1. Bags you know the plastic Wal-Mart/ grocery store bags, people like to have their purchases in bags.

2. Pricing stickers. Make sure to put them in obvious places but not in critical places, if for some reason the stickers decide to pull the paint off.

3. Newspaper, to wrap glass or fragile items in.

4. A marking pen, nuff said.

5. Clear tape, Scotch type.

6. Enough money in denominations to make change. Trust me the first person that makes a purchase will give you a $20 and most likely will the second. Here are some suggestions that I have found to be true over the years: 1. Have an area or box of items for "quick" sale that people can dig through...they love it.

2. Beware "bebacks" normally don't come back. Sell it now.

3. Do not sell items that are broken or don't work you won't last long. If it doesn't work, or if it's chipped, or cracked let the customer know up front.

4. By the way, let the wife do most of the selling for some reason people tend to purchase from her quicker than from you.

5. Keep your stuff clean and fresh.

6. Honestly will be remembered, cheating will be remembered more.

7. If you love it, you will price it too high.

8. I like to have one item on my table that nobody knows what it is.... Many will check it out, it is a great conversation piece, and now you have a lead in.
