Sitting with our first cup of hot coffee in the morning, my wife says. "We need to get a newspaper". I immediately knew two things. First for sure it was Thursday and second I would probably be spending some time at garage sales this weekend. Sure enough our weekend was affirmed a little later in the day as my wife spotted not one but two estate sales in local paper.
We got a bit of a late start on Saturday morning, so we opted to start with the later starting sale. The sale was to start at 10am we arrived at about 10:30 to a line of about 25 people out front of the house. Inquiring as to what was going on we were informed that they were only allowing a limited number of people in the house at any given time. As some people would leave others would take their place. It took us about an hour to work our way inside the home. When you entered the home we were assigned a sales person that would answer questions, provide prices and assist us with check out when we were finished shopping. The people who's home it was were in their 80's bless them. I don't think that they had ever passed a knick-knack figurine in a store that they didn't buy at least one if not two of them. The entire house was filled with stuff not a lot of it was expensive but a ton of dust collectors, kitchen items and bed fixings. We looked around the house and quickly realized that at the rate they were going and the method they were using it would be a very long day for them. Unless someone bought a tremendous amount of items they would have a lot of items left at the end of the sale. We bought a few things and decided that we would check out the other estate sale. The second sale turned out to be a bust; anything of interest must have been sold prior to our arrival. We decided we'd had enough excitement for the day and headed toward home. As we were driving home we were discussing the estate sales and we decided to return to the first sale on Sunday just to see what was left. We did just that we got to the sale about 11am (no line). They had sold a lot of stuff but there was still a lot left to sell. We inquired as to what they were going to do with what was left after the sale? "We are going to donate it to charity." They said. "How about we come back after the sale and make you an offer for what is left?" we said. "There won't be that much left it wouldn't be worth your time to do that." They said. Perhaps they were looking at a different house than we were because there was no way they were going to sell that much stuff in that short a period. We gave them our phone number in case they changed their mind. Went home opened a cool beverage and awaited the phone call. Go To Page: 1 2
