Merry Christmas!!!

© Barry Houseknecht

This Christmas is a little different. We are on the road but don't feel at all alone . You see our "family" has gotten considerably larger. Over the past few days we have gotten Christmas wishes from many of Rvers that we have met. The cards update us on their location, Christmas plans and other things that are happening in their lives. We get that warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing their safe and well in their travels. One of the cards tells us that one of our family that has left the RV lifestyle for the traditional lifestyle. We wish them well in their ventures. They will remain as family to us.

As noted before we do have family (son-in-law, daughter, and two children 11 & 14) that live close. We along with the other granddaughter, that flew in from Florida, will all be spending the holidays together. We are really looking forward to this get together .

When the weather turned cold and we tried to use the heater we found that it would not light so no heat. Not good. We made an appointment and took our unit about 50 miles to a dealer "Holiday World of Dallas", It Is actually in Mesquite, TX. They really did a fantastic job on the RV including keeping us informed as to what was going on at all times. As it turns out they had to order one of the parts to be delivered the next day. They put us up on property in their 8 spot RV park. Do you have overnight facilities?, will be a question that I will ask next time. It would have been a major pain to have had to return home then back the next day.

The repairs, parts and stay (no charge for the stay) cost us $50. That is our deductible. The total bill was in the neighborhood of $500. If you are no longer under warranty let me highly recommend an extended warranty. Even though it seems like a lot of money to pay per month my policy has paid out more than we have paid in just two trips to the repair guy.

As we pass three months here in Midlothian, TX the wind still blows steadily. Doing much of anything outside is made uncomfortable by the winds and chill factor. I love a camp fire but have not had a time when it felt safe to light one. The owner has yet to finish the sites as he said he would I.e. a privacy fence between us and the trucking company road behind us, Which would also be a great help in blocking some of the wind. I hope I am wrong but I am not sure at this point that it will get done before we leave in march.
