It has been awhile so I need to bring everyone up to date. We are now located in Midlothian, Tx. It's a small town approximately twenty miles south of Dallas, Tx. First thing I noticed was very few trees, flat land, wide-open spaces and a constantly blowing wind. It is a good location for us because we have relatives that we wanted to spend the winter holidays with, just to the north of Dallas. We broke our rules (more on this later) but we signed on to work until April with a company called Music-T's. They print T-shirts and make such things as award plaques and buttons. These are sold at band marching and coral contests. A portion of the profit is returned to the schools. We are doing production type work here, unlike the New York job we now are suffering pains from not moving all day where as in New York we rarely ever stood still.
The business owner has provided seven RV sites for the workampers. They are a still a bit primitive at this point but if all intentions and plans are followed these sites will be top notch. I mentioned breaking some of our rules coming here. These so-called rules were that we didn't want to stay at any location for more than 3 months, this assignment is for six. The next is that we don't like paying for a spot. We feel that it should be included as part of the package. Here we are paying $320 per month for the spot. Actually we are paying for the spot in hours worked but it is still $320. If any of you that read this employ workampers here is something that you can provide that will make the adjustment to your location much much easier. Provide a list of locations for such things as churches, gas station, Laundromat, post office, a couple of not to expensive places to eat (sample menus if possible), where you can buy propane, and obviously the local Wal-Mart (or shopping center), and a grocery store. Add to the list the local phone co. and cable TV provider and you pretty much have answered all of the immediate concerns that we workampers have when we arrive at your location. Go To Page: 1 2
