Here we are in Florida. A combination of the declining work situation in NY, a legal problem (probate) and my son needing help with opening a used car lot led us to make this decision. We hope that we can clear the probate thing, which includes selling a home, get the car lot up and running, find a winter job in Texas and still be on the way west the first part of October.
While I am thinking about it we finally decided to use a mail forwarding service rather than having a family member do it. Take my advise go ahead and set up your mail forwarding account and have it in place before you start your travels. Start by sending your mail to your own house. It is a good check to see that you have all of your mail accounted for. There is nothing wrong with having a family member forward your mail, just remember your mail is just not the first priority in their life. While I am on the subject of mail you may want to consider on line banking for paying bills. Here is what I have found works for me. 1. Recurring bills such as auto or RV payments can be set up to be paid automatically every month. 2. Many credit cards, phone bills, power bills and others may be able to E-bill you that is they send an electronic bill to your bank. You have these set up to pay the minimum due. By doing this it will automatically pay the minimum and keep you from being late should you be without Internet for any length of time. When you get on line to your bank you will see that e-bills came in. All you have to do is adjust the amount to be paid. We had our first boondocking experience on our trip to Florida. We spent the night in a Flying J truck stop right there with the big rigs. They made a lot of noise but it was constant so it tended not to bother us too much. We bought gas and ate on site, which was all good, but the thing we needed was air conditioning. As our fifth wheel has no generator (yet) we had no air, it was a bit stuffy most of the night. This one night of boondocking has convinced us that it is an option that we will take advantage of every chance we get. Go To Page: 1 2
