Rus: Travel Hints and Helps
In order to travel to the countries of the Rus you must have a valid passport that has a minimum of 90 days left prior to expiration. You will need to obtain a visa for the following countries: 2. Ukraine 3. Belarus 4. Moldova 5. Georgia You may do this in one of several ways. The easiest and most convenient is to use a passport/visa service. There is of course a charge for their services. The upside of this method is that they do everything for you and for an additional fee will expedite the visa for you. You may of course do this yourself by contacting the individual consular offices and obtaining their visa application forms, filling them out, sending with the proper form of payment and waiting.
The first method, while a little more expensive, is less time consuming, more efficient and above more convenient especially if dealing with more than 1 consular office. Allow for at least 2-6 weeks for obtaining visas. Do not attempt to take any short cuts or to circumvent the regulations established by each country. Do it their way or don't bother! Here is a list of servcies available in the USA & Canada from the InterNet: Getting There and Back While we have all seen "cheap" airfares on the Internet at such sites as Hotwire, Orbit, etc. it is much better to utilize a travel agent. The cost is minuscule, the benefits include having someone to contact if you have a problem while enroute, they have a legal responsibility to you that online services do not and you will be able to book transportation, lodging, tours, tc. at a fixed rate. Lodging There are more than a few options about lodging, at least in the cities. You may select a hotel either a local hotel or one from an international chain such as best Western, Hilton, Sheraton, Novotel, etc. I have utilized some of both. I prefer to utilize a service that will provide a flat complete with maid & cook for a reasonable fee. Small hotels should be examined prior to checking in. Look them over, ask questions, determine whether you will have a private bath, share a bath, will have doors that lock, etc. There are excellent services and lodgings to be found on the Internet. At the end of this article I will list some of those that I have used and can honestly recommend.
