A Trip Down Memory Lane -The Beginning.
June 4, West Palm Beach, Florida.
The day before our Miracle journey began, one after one the Miracle Runners arrived, with Matt Hoidal, the Miracle Marathon Founder, greeting each of us personally at the airport. For the first time that evening at the hotel lobby, the Miracle Marathon team finally met under the same roof. It was a moment long anticipated by all. It was also an emotional but yet exciting moment for everyone. As if each of us a tributary stream of the Mississippi River, and now all joining to form one enormous river. We now gathered our strength, ready to face any obstacles and challenges, and ready to make waves. Like the roaring Mississippi, we knew no bounds, no obstacles would be big enough or strong enough to stop us from reaching our destination, Camp Sunshine of Maine.
Meeting the other team members was like meeting a family member that I never met before. Although we were strangers to each other in many ways, we all knew we share something in common. And it was that common interest which runs in our blood that bonded us together. It took very little time for the Miracle Runners to gel and a new family was born. For the next 13 days, we would push and pull each other through the heat of Florida and the hills of New England.
After many months of hard work in preparations, his Miracle Marathon dream finally became reality. Matt overwhelmed by emotion, broke down in tears trying to speak to us as a group for the first time. It is impossible to talk about the Miracle Marathon without talking about Matt, the heart and soul of the Miracle Marathon. "Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical, and expecting more than others think is possible," sums up who Matt Hoidal is. What started as one person's dream and passion, the Miracle Marathon's belief has spread out throughout the nation and beyond through 12 runners: "When it comes to a child's happiness no distance is too far, and no challenge is too great."

Suffocating. Suffocating was the only word that could describe the heat and humidity we encountered. Both measurements were simmering at mid 90's. We were determined and knew only one way to go: Due North.
