One Word This Week... Fluids!

I have one word for you to think about this week. Fluids! Hey - I have another word for you to consider too... water!

I met a runner that calmly told me "I never drink water, haven't for years; I just drink soda, and I'm doing just fine."

Well, okay, if you say so. But I feel I should remind you that water is what your body needs! Especially when the weather starts changing and getting hotter. We seemed to have skipped spring this year and moved right on into summer. Now I realize that will change soon - but how many of us will know to increase our water. What is worse is that we may KNOW we should hydrate before exercise, during exercise as well as after. Yet how many of us don't do it?

Please remember to drink water, as well as sports drinks. And you can't make up for one week of dehydration in one day either.

If you want to run your best race, or train effectively - or even eliminate headaches that are caused by too little fluid intake, then drink up!

I have several articles about how much and how often to drink water or sports drinks so I won't go into detail here. This is juts to remind you (and myself) to be careful now that the weather has warmed up.

Drink up before the day of your race for those of you that run races on the weekends. Take care of your body and it will probably take care of you!

Oh - and this is for the runner that told me he never drinks water and hasn't for years... It is true that you are getting fluids by drinking soda... but believe me, consuming water will NOT be a bad thing for your body. Try it... you may juts like it.

I want to remind runners of the following event. Each week I will be posting information about it until the event is over. If you can help in any way, I urge you to get involved. (also see last weeks article)
