glance into the dark alley, they would not be able to see him. This was definitely the best way to enter
undetected.
So far in his crime spree in the area, no one had ever awakened during a robbery. It was unknown what he would do if that should ever happen. In the quiet hush of the night, the prowler carefully removed the screen and placed it on the ground. It was difficult to push the window open. It was an old window and many layers of paint prevented it from opening smoothly, yet he finally managed to push it up. He shone his flashlight into the darkened room briefly as he made certain the floor was clear beneath the window. It was important to enter quietly. He scanned the room. Only a dinning room table and chairs were in this room, as well as some sort of jungle-gym-cat-tree that was positioned beside the window. It still gave him plenty of room to climb in without making any noise. He never noticed the large calico cat that was hiding in the tunnel portion of the jungle gym. Aggie, a calico cat, had been listening intently to the faint sounds of the screen being removed and the sounds of the window being opened. She decided that something about this was not quite right. In fact - she had decided she didn't like the sneaky way the window was opened -she didn't like the cold air pouring in and she especially did not like the smell of this strange menacing person who was standing just outside of HER window! Every bit of her fur was standing straight out. Her whiskers were pitched forward and her ears were straining to catch any sound. Her large body was tense. She waited. The robber quietly stacked up two cinder blocks and stood on them. He then gripped both sides of the window frame and silently eased one leg, then his face through the open window. In that brief instant, as his face came through the window, Aggie attacked! She leapt onto the man's face, scratched - then quickly jumped back onto her tree. The prowler screamed in terror as he fell backward out of the window. He landed on the ground with a thud. Blood was pouring down his face. One shoe was left on window sill but he paid it no mind. He was up in an instant - running away in absolute terror! He probably had no idea of what had just happened. He only wanted to escape. Off he
