Running stories, runner tips and running links are what this web site are all about.
Go here for a complete list of running links. If you are looking for a good cause and want to help a runner who is helping some very special people, take a look at her Letter to All. A First Grade Class Needs Your Number! Read their letter to you! I do not claim to be an expert on how a runner should train for a marathon. You should see your family doctor before you begin this training program. (OK, now stop smirking . . .that comment was for all those people who have never run further than their mailbox or who don't run on a regular basis.) There are many different approaches and "how to" books on training for a marathon. Many of them are excellent! However, I have picked the following plan on how a runner might want to train for a marathon because, well, I like it. I may publish another training plan at another time, but today, I wanted to give my readers a look at a plan that I am going to use. October this year is the big "FIVE-O" birthday for me. It is also the month I picked to do my first marathon. Can't think of a better way to celebrate, can you? And I say phooey to the nay-sayers!! My back surgery is now in the past and I'm back in training once again. For those of you who don't know, this past November I had surgery on three herniated discs. The herniation was NOT due to running, in case you wondered. I decided I would NOT use a local neurosugeon surgeon who told me I would never run again, and shouldn't have run in the first place. According to him, NO ONE should. He then informed me I would have to have a metal cage installed in the spine whenever I did opt for sugery. Of course I'd lose mobility. Of course I could never run again. Yeah, right, sure, I'll just do what ya say doc . . . what? Little ole ME question your advice??? The local surgeon is not, nor ever will be, a runner. He is smug in his mistaken belief that every runner will eventually end up at his office.
