Mae Faggs Starrstraightaway! I had to reach deep down to get more speed that I really didn't think I had to beat her. She sure could stretch out in the 200! After the Olympics Mae went on to college. Something that would not have been possible for her otherwise. After college, Mae went on to become a school teacher and later director of College Opportunity Program at Xavier University. She is kept busy with her responsibilities these days and when she does think about the Games and the people she influenced, she smiles. My thanks to Runners World and editor Lyn Votava for providing the bulk of this material.
To check out other articles for Black History Month. You will find the Olympic page a great place to spend some time. Take a look. .Dear Editor, What can I do about all the car fumes when I run? Would wearing a scarf over my nose help at all? Dear JD A scarf would give you some relief from the fumes but you may want to try a mask that is made especially for filtering out dust particles and exhaust from cars. You can find it at most drug stores and also stores like Walmart. They are reasonably priced and you will be able to use them more than once. Call your pharmacist and ask him to explain the different types available. Hope this helps you.
