Heart & Soul Marathons.have walked alongside marathoners with MS. Since June of 1998, I have been a companion to my best-forever-friend from my childhood days. A malignant tumor was removed, along with his left glute, in February, 1998. Although recent tests indicate no evidence of that cancer, he continues his fourteen year battle with leukemia. His first marathon, NYC (5:57:54), was in November, 1998. His second, the National Capital Marathon (5:30:06), was in May, 1999. Our third marathon, the Marine Corps, 1999 (6:27:28) was done with the Leukemia Team In Training, and I am now looking forward to our next marathon together. Although these three marathons were some of my slower times on the clock, it is no coincidence that they also rank as the 'best' times I have ever had in a marathon.
