Ah...the benefits of being a couch potato! WHAT? Are you crazy, you ask?

While that may be up for debate, let us now simply speculate about the idea that being totally inactive may have its own rewards.

Really? Sure!

There are many benefits to being a couch potato. I'll list just a few, and you, dear reader, may feel free to list as many as you can come up with also. Then, just to be fair, I will list a few reason that may support the other view, which is that exercise, running in particular, may have benefits.

Benefit number one to never exercising is that you will never have to see your grown children fight over your possessions when you are old. Hey, you'll never live that long.

Number two is you will not have to worry about how you will make ends meet on your small social security check when you are old. Same reason as number one.

Number three, you won't have to worry if there will BE a social security check when you are old. Remember, you won't live that long.

Benefit number four, you won't have to shovel the snow when you are old. Yep, same reason, you probably won't live that long.

Okay, let's say you beat the odds and do make it into old age. Well, what can you expect?

Well, you can expect to support your druggist. But I know he'll be grateful to you.

You'll get to make weekly trips to your local doctor's office to get your blood pressure checked.

Also, they have those nifty needles now to keep track of your blood sugar.

Okay, now for the other side of the story.

If you choose to respect your body and take responsibility for it, then you also will want to exercise it and try to eat reasonable well. You may choose to run. A choice I personally prefer.

What are the benefits of this choice? Well, let's list some.

Exercise lowers high blood pressure, burns fat, regulates blood sugar, extends life, promotes long term health, helps you sleep better, improves your mood, heightens mental acuity, strengthens the immune system, strengthens your bones, improves digestion, expands the lungs and strengthens them, and will help you win the lottery.

Okay, so it won't help you win the lottery, but it will give you the very best chance to stay healthy.

We never know what will happen to us as we grow older. We all know that the body we have is the only one we'll get this time around, so we should take care of it.
