I realize that some of you live in areas that have zero snow during the winter, however you may experience "burn-out" at some point so perhaps you will want to read the tips I will share today.
Kate from Oregon sent in this tip on what gets her out the door during the coldest months of winter.
She wrote: " On some of the coldest days of the winter I was having a hard time getting out the door to do my daily run. I now have a sure fire incentive to get me out the door. Actually, my husband thought of it first, and I really appreciate it!
My husband goes to work at seven in the morning and on the way there makes a stop. He stops at a bend in the road that is my turn around point (my half way point ) in my usual running route. He places a special package there and then drives on to work. When I get there a short time later I stop for a moment and pick up the package he left. That is all the motivation I need to get out the door even on days when it is snowing. Oh, would you like to know what he places there for me? Why a small thermos of hot chocolate!
He does his running routine during his lunch hour on an indoor track and tells me the least he can do is leave me the hot chocolate! It works every time!"
Bill from North Dakota wrote: "What keeps me in training during the winter months is my dog, Chips. No matter how cold it is or how dark it is, he is always ready to go for a run. As soon as I have my coffee he goes to the front door and starts wagging his tail so hard he almost knocks himself over. He also has the leash in his mouth and whines his "happy" whine that lets me know he is ready to run! I just can't let him down, so I put on my running gear and head on out with him. That's what keeps me going in the winter!"
