Uh, I didn't run today because...And today the reason is... On some days it seems like everything conspires against your decision to put those running shoes on and head out the door. With the exception of a runner that is injured or ill, the reasons we runners can come up with when we don't want to run are astounding. Normally of course, we all enjoy running. In fact some of us border on the obsessive side of this issue, and that is just fine for some of us. Yet there are times when even the most dedicated, obsessive runner goes through burnout. When this happens, you will hear some mighty interesting reasons pertaining to why it is just not possible to run "today." Here are a few reasons why a runner can't find time to run that day: I forgot I was suppose to run. I couldn't find my shoes. My running clothes are still wet from yesterday, so I have to wait until they dry. There is a marathon on TV that I have to watch. By the time I found my running shoes, I didn't have time to run. My dog didn't want to go out today and run with me. My running partner didn't run, so I didn't either. I have to bake bread today. My running shoes just reached the 500-mile mark so I am not gonna run in them anymore. The 5k race is only two weeks away so I need my rest. I was gonna run, but slept in again by mistake. In all my years of running I have never once heard a runner say,"I just didn't feel like it today, that's all." The fact is that some of us do need a break from time to time so we can still have a fresh approach to running. I would like to hear from all my readers as to what excuse they have used at times and why they didn't run on a day they had planned to. Now the key word here is EXCUSE. Also, you may send in excuses you have heard from others or even some you just think up! Just enter them on the discussion area at the bottom of this page or e-mail me if you'd rather. Next week I will post the excuses you send me. This is just for fun and feel free to be silly. After all, a lot of us are in for a LONG winter and we need creative excuses to occupy our minds.
