I thought it would be fun to discuss a great running camp my spouse and I went to this past summer. With the last few weeks of cold weather before us and spring already officially declared , I find myself yearning for the warmer days ahead. In Pennsylvania, where I live, the temperatures are still in the teens and twenties. I'm ready for a change!
In the early part of March last year, as snow still blanketed the frozen ground, I called and made a reservation at a running camp located in beautiful Craftsbury Vermont. I had done some research on various camps and had decided that this was the one to try.
We chose Master's week as the week we wanted to go. We were impressed by the list of events offered . Master's week is primarily for runners who are forty and over but they do not limit admission based on age.
Upon arrival, we met with the coaches and the other runners who were signed up. We were given a tour of the dormitories , cabins, boat docks, and the dinning hall where we were to eat our three meals per day.
We were told it was OUR vacation and encouraged to participate in as much or as little as we wanted.
Let me say this about the food right now. Don't expect cafeteria type food at this camp. They serve delicious food and a lot of it!
The buffet style meals are absolutely succulent and prepared with the health conscience athlete in mind. Vegetarian entrees and plenty of fresh fruit are always available. All the casseroles and soups are homemade , as well as homemade bread and wonderful desserts. Special diets are available with advance notice.
The week was full of things to do! Runners were videotaped from several angles at the beginning of the week. The coaches analyzed form and foot pattern, giving helpful feedback to each person. At the end of the week, the same process was repeated and each runner was able to see
