You've got to love the holiday season if you are a stamper. All year long you've worked your fingers to the bone, brayering colors, heating embossing powders, perfecting techniques and creating projects one after another. Many of the projects you've created may remain in your studio, or languishing in a basket or folder, waiting to be enjoyed. Without being too sacreligious, I say to you, "Behold, I bring you tidings of great joy which shall be to all stampers. Unto us this month are given many chances to contact others and share the fruits of our labors, created lo these many hours by light of a single Ott Lamp!" First, there are those wonderful holiday letters. What a great chance to combine border stamps and corner stamps to design your own paper to print your letter on. If you'll be sending a letter to families with young readers, try out a rebus...you know...one of those stories where some of the words are replaced with pictures. You can use animal stamps to represent your pets, a house stamp for your home...etc. While you are completing your project, let your kids try their hand at this technique. They may come up with the best letter on their own. If nothing else, you'll certainly get a feel for their take on the past year. Cards will certainly take precedence on your project list. Try a new style this year. If you've never created a shaker box, or have yet to experiment with Versa-Mark ink those are both fun things to work with. Pick up a new stamp publication and create your own card using a suggestion from its' pages. Try making your own gift tags, or use acrylic paint, large foam stamps and brown kraft paper and make your own gift wrap. One of the best gifts you can give that uses the principles involved in stamping is a handprint apron. Gather your kids and some blank aprons from a craft store or kitchen store. Get some paper plates and pour acrylic paint into them. Have your kids place their hands in the paint and wipe off some of the excess, leaving their hands well covered with paint. Have them lay their hand straight down on the apron and then help them lift it straight back up. With a fabric marker, add their name and the year underneath their hand print and you have a priceless gift for moms, grandmas and grandpas and friends of the family. So get busy and put your stamp on this holiday season! Go To Page: 1
