We have all created a project and sat back to look at our creation and thought, "It needs something." With the rising emphasis in embellishment in paper crafting, rubber stampers are able to access myriad types of embellishment. Most stampers are familiar with embellishments from fiber to natural elements, but there are constantly new types and shapes and its fun to see some you might have missed that could be perfect for your current card, handmade book or home dec project. If you've not used eyelets in awhile, you'll be pleasantly surprised in whats happened to the basic round shape. It now comes in circles, flowers, hearts, primitive hearts, stars, triangles, squares and is available in several sizes. The color schemes will thrill you too...no longer are you limited to white and black and a few pastels. From deep burgundy to fire engine red, spruce green to chartreuse, eyelet producers have dipped these little bits of metal into vats of rainbow colors. Hole punches are now available to go anywhere on a page, no longer restricted by a handle that allows only a certain reach. You'll need a setting tool and a mallet or hammer of some type, as well as a self-healing mat or cutting board to protect the surface you are working on, but the end result can be that special extra you were looking for.Check your favorite rubber stamp site for eyelets. If they aren't available in a wide selection, try a scrapbook shopping site like http://www.dmarie.com Another favorite embellishment is a product called Magic Mesh. This is a mesh product, again available in gobs of colors, that is adhesive on one side. Create a great background, by placing the mesh down and stamping over it. Lift the mesh carefully and you have an airy net background for stamping trailing ivy, or beautiful florals against. If you like to do collage work, this mesh provides the perfect border or center accent for your stamped or mixed media pieces. Another use is to cut the mesh in squares and place an image that has been stamped on a second smaller square on top of the mesh for a dimensional look. Fibers are another area of growing types and colors. If you've not investigated that for your projects, you'll be amazed how many varieties are available. A simple black and white image will benefit from a cord of black shot through with gold or silver metallic, or perhap a textured thread to create a small tassle aside the image. The Card Ladies are a great source for decorative fibers and are wonderful to work with...not to mention all the amazing projects they will inspire you to create. Go To Page: 1 2
