Video Stamping...Watch and Learn

I just got back from coffee at my neighbor's where she provided with me with a new source of stamps. It was a Pottery Barn catalog of all places. Not some place I'd think to shop for stamps, but nevertheless an amazing source of darling, simple stamp designs. Actually it was the Pottery Barn for Kids, but still...http://www.potterybarn.com is where you would visit to see their rubber stamp style.

It made me realize the extent to which rubber stamping has ceased to be something only for crafters and hobbyists and has become more and more a mainstream art alternative. Those of us that have stamped for years know its great potential to add beauty and color to our lives, as well as increase our creative and decorative abilities. But we seem to be "trendy" as more and more people discover the ease in which rubber stamping allows them to decorate their gardens and homes.

Shows on the DIY network,http://www.diynet.com Discovery,http://www.discovery.com The Family Channel,http://www.familyca.com HGTV, http://www.hgtv.com PBS, http://www.pbs.org and other cable channels often feature shows on rubber stamping and provide us with new sources of inspiration. Carol Duvall, Lynette Jennings, Christopher Lowell and other well known craft show hosts and decorators have featured segments on rubber stamping.

If you don't have cable, don't despair. The shows projects are easily accessible through the web and they often have video streaming for hands on crafts that allows you to benefit from watching someone perform the task to create the project. I find that most creative people tend to be more visual and its wonderful to have the advantage of watching someone make the object so you get the gist of what was done.

You can also visit several websites where videos are available for purchase. From Dee Gruenig, http://www.poshimpressions.com to Suze Weinberg, http://www.schmoozewithsuze.com there are lots of Stamp "Divas" who will provide you with footage of their rubber stamping prowess so you can emulate their style or color schemes to complete similiar cards or home dec creations. http://www.usartquest.com has links to Susan Pickering Rothmel's videos and at http://rubberstampinglinks.com you can go to the video section and find any number of companies with videos for your perusal. Of course, you might find yourself wanting to spend some money to acquire a few of the things they've used...but if it sparks a new creative style for your stamping, so much the better. So warm up your vcr and haul out your inks and stamps. If its too hot outside you can watch t.v. and be inspired.
