Creative Holiday Gifts are just a Stamp Away!

With Thanksgiving only three weeks away, I guess its time to begin plans for our holiday gifts. With your current collection of stamps you have the perfect beginnings for some wonderful gifts, literally, at your "fingertips". If you have several small images, you might want to consider stamping an advent calendar for a niece, nephew or grandchild. Parents would be so greatful for a gift that helped them with the Is it Christmas yet? question. With a ruler create a grid that contains 24 boxes. You can do 6 x 4 or 8 x 3, whichever size squares best fit your images. Use the very top or bottom for a special image for Christmas eve. Once you've created your background, lay a piece of cardstock or other heavy weight paper above your stamped paper. With a pencil mark where each opening should be and using an exacto knife cut three sided openings that can be folded back to create doors. Decorate with stickers or other stamped designs and you have an advent calendar of your own creation.

Snow globe kits are available at http://shop.store.yahoo.com/windover/sno... These can contain a stamped insert of any design, and the outside can be decorated accordingly. If you choose a victorian theme, you could use decorative cording and charms to decorate the outside. An african animal on the inside would warrant leather and fur accents. A licensed character like Harry Potter could include a decoration of Jelly Beans, (every flavor beans!) or a minature broom. Whatever you choose for the inside, the recipient will be getting a unique gift of your own creativity.

Christmas ornaments are a wonderful use for your stamp collection. Create several in a themed group and wrap them together for a newlywed couple, or an older teen, who will soon strike out on their own. For unique stamping surfaces that make wonderful ornaments visit http://www.some-assembly-required.com. Try stamping a variety of images and placing them, along with paper shreds, inside acrylic ornaments. Include a metal hanger and the recipient can choose a different ornament from time to time to accent their holiday decor.

Pick an evening and gather your favorite group of stamping friends and create gifts together. Have everyone bring a piece of hand-stamped gift wrap and by the end of the evening you'll be well on the way to having your gift list whittled down to the bare minimum!
