Gail Green, Author, Designer and Stamper Extraordinaire!

One of my favorite stamp experts is Gail Green. Gail is the author of one of the rubber stamp books that I use for reference constantly, "The Ultimate Rubber Stamping Technique Book." She has also recently published "The Cat & Dog Lover's Idea Book." The books are available through Amazon.com and I strongly recommend checking them out! Recently the opportunity to interview Gail presented itself and I couldn't pass it up. I gained lots of great tips and wonderful insights and I want to pass those on to everyone at the Suite!

The first question I asked Gail was when she first began rubber stamping. Her answer: "I started out in the craft industry doing a lot of sewed crafts and selling them to stores and at craft boutiques and shows. As I grew, I started attending trade shows to search for suppliers for materials and check for new trends. I was at one of these trade shows, about 15-16 years ago and had just spent 3 days doing non-stop little make-it and take-it projects, watching demos and absorbing and learning all kinds of crafting techniques and product uses...I was so tired from walking the show and I was on total creative overload-and just didn't want to learn another thing! And then I saw it..an empty seat! After standing in long lines for 3 days to do projects, it was like a mirage in the desert, so I made a beeline for the chair. Just to sit down, of course. It turned out to be at Hero Arts booth. Now understand the Midwest, (specifically the Chicago area ) had not yet been exposed to artistic rubber stamping, which in those days was still pretty primitive compared to the sophistication and number of supplies and surfaces we are used to today. There were a handful of stamps on the table, a black dye inkpad, some markers, a tube of glitter glue and paper. Curious, I picked up the "Angel Trio", plunked it on the ink pad and stamped it once on the paper. I thought, "Hmmmm...this seems pretty easy..."So I picked up the "Star Cluster" and stamped that one a few times around the angels, creating a star-studded sky. Now, that got my attention and got my poor tired brain to start thinking creatively again! It was so easy...and so quick...and with just a bit of marker coloring and some glitter glue I had completed an entire project in just a few minutes."
