Unlimited Surfaces...or What should I Stamp on Next?Overlooking paper has a surface is not my intent with this article in the least. There are myriad numbers of papers available to the stamper ranging from grocery sacks to vellum. Handmade paper is enjoying every growing popularity, allowing stampers to take their art to another level, by first crafting their paper and then stamping on it. There are several kits available on the market to help you to begin creating your own paper or you can purchase handmade paper on the web or at high end stationery stores, art supplies and craft stores. Don't rule out white artist tablets for stamping in black ink and coloring in your stamp with colored pencil, water-color paint or one of the gorgeous marker lines available today. Some of the most beautiful cards start with a white piece of paper! Which leads me to a hint about one of my favorite fun and easy stamping surfaces: an ordinary white envelope. I find the more stamps I buy, the more I see blank surfaces of any kind as an opportunity to "get the ink out". Envelopes provide a fertile blank stamping surface that can also be put to use when completed. I often find stamping an envelope will lead to a card idea, allowing me to have a complete set to send to a friend. A rapidly growing area in the rubber stamp industry is stamping for the scrapbooking/memory book consumers. These surfaces again, require inks to be used that are acid free so that no harm is done to photographs that may come in contact with the ink during the memory page's storage. This is another area that we'll explore in depth at a later time. So you've read about stamps, inks and surfaces. Its time to plunge in to your new hobby with gusto...Ready, Set, Stamp!
