Here's an addition to the list of conventions happening in the next few months:
MisCon 13, a science fiction/fantasy/horror convention in Missoula, Montana, is set for Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-24, at the Doubletree Edgewater. Guests of honor are Donna Barr, author of Desert Peach, Steve Jackson of Steve Jackson Games, and Dragon Dronet, Hollywood special effects, makeup costuming wizard and part-time Klingon. As a bonus, Decipher Games holds their regional Star Wars and StarTrek CCG tournament at Miscon this year. For room information, call (406) 728-3100. If you've ever dreamed of being a (published) author, and you love creating devious campaigns to roleplay, here's two chances to combine your dreams: Role Industries is launching its new 'zine "Dreams & Fantasy" with a contest. Find rules at the Role Industries home page. Or e-mail Fraja@Infodisc.es for more information. Dreams & Fantasy is meant to be a resource for everything about RP - with quality and fun as the theme. Hogshead Publishing, Ltd., announces its 1998 Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Writers' contest. Who can enter? Anyone who hasn't had games material published professionally. If you have been published in a magazine, that's fine, you're still eligible @whee! For guidelines, please contact Anthony Ragan, contest manager, at irishspy@mindspring.com with "WFRP contest" as the subject heading. Both contests offer prizes and subscriptions and, if you're a writer, most importantly, the chance to get published and make a permanent addition to the world of RP. Plus, they just might be fun. In keeping with the loose theme of this column, i.e. Different Ways to Have Fun with RP, check out Uncle Figgy's Guide to Good Roleplaying, or How to Manipulate Friends and Influence People, a hilarious guide to the finer arts of gaming. With advice ranging from "Do follow the rules" to "Don't follow the rules," you'll find something to laugh at even if you can't use the advice. One of these columns, I'm going to list all the questions I've asked you : ) while I wait and despair of ever receiving answers. Seriously, let's make this column a bit more interactive. Thanks for dropping by.
