Have an idea for the perfect game? You're in luck this month if you get motivated to actually write it. There¹s plenty of fresh programming toys on the Web, along with new games to check out for inspiration:
A C++ source system for interactive fiction authors, MAGE, 0.1.1 uses a modular design that cooperates with graphical clients to make the programming as straightforward as possible. Comments? Write to mage@mage.rulez.org, or subscribe to the mailing list. The Interactive Fiction Archive is restocked! Some of the braintwisters include: "La busqueda Opa-Opa," an adventure written in Spanish that takes a lumberjack's child on a quest for knighthood; "Firebird," a Russian folk tale; and "Total Paddling Mania, An Interactive Punishment Jag." There are new TADS, ALAN and Inform interpreters, too, as well as articles on game construction. In the live action arena, eighteen new scenarios are at the LARP archives. GMs should look at the Grapevine LARP Administration Utility. Let the computer handle the drudgery of keeping track of players, characters and actions. For the mud dwellers, Imaginary Realities has started 1999 off with articles on everything from the dangers of realism to NPC intelligence.
