But while the book is not about Katie, her gentle presence is the guiding force for the book. According to Fowler, if not for the love of a dog, she might never have escaped the nightmare she lived in.
The book is actually written as if Fowler was addressing her abuser directly, which took a page or two to get used to. But on the whole, it was a very fast read. I do have to warn you though, both the abuse and the language can be quite graphic and disturbing, even more so because this is not a work of fiction. Despite that, though, I found the book to be ultimately quite uplifting.
